On December 9, 10, 2021, the first STEAM Azerbaijan Festival 2021 was held at the Baku Expo Center with the support of the Ministry of Education within the "STEAM Azerbaijan" project.
The festival, which was held for students in grades 6 through 11, was organized for the first time in the country with the aim of identifying talented and creative students with a variety of ideas and creating new chances for student collaboration and communication. 10 categories including "STEAM Open (Makerthon)", "Hackathon", "Micro:Bit", "Lego Sumo", "Line follower", "3D Cad", "Short Movie", "Edu Drone", "Humanoid Robot" were present during the first festival. In addition, students were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the "Escape Room" based on quest technologies module and become an active participant in the game. The festival had 892 participants from 289 teams, including 374 individuals from 91 teams from the provinces and 518 participants from 198 teams from the capital.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev underlined the importance of the festival in revealing and improving students ICT knowledge and skills as well as the fact that students who participated in it would return to their schools with great motivation. According to the Minister of Education, it is intended to broaden the festivals geographic scope and draw students from outside in the upcoming years.
The minister congratulated the winning teams and wished them luck as he expressed his gratitude to those who helped with festival organization.
Closing ceremony and winner announcement took place on December 10.
